AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 15, 2026 – Dodge and Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) today announced that after a 66-year absence, NHRA national drag racing returns to Michigan. To mark the occasion, TSR unveiled new Purple Haze-themed liveries on its Dodge Charger Super Bee race cars, revealed by team owner Tony Stewart and drivers Matt Hagan and Leah Pruett at the Chrysler Technology Center.

The inaugural Mopar-sponsored Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals takes place September 18-20 at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan.

Dodge CEO: The Perfect Way to Celebrate Charger's 60th

Matt McLear, Dodge CEO, said: "Dodge is bringing NHRA national racing back to Michigan after more than 60 years. Through our partnership with TSR, we're also highlighting the recently launched SIXPACK-powered Charger Super Bee – unquestionably the most powerful muscle car yet. Plus, Charger's new Purple Haze color deserves attention. During Charger's 60th anniversary celebration, there's no better sight than Matt and Leah racing in fresh Dodge colors and graphics."

2027 Charger Super Bee Launch Edition on Display

In August, Dodge revived the legendary nameplate at Roadkill Nights in Detroit with the 2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee Launch Edition. Powered by an SAE-certified 600-horsepower SIXPACK engine, it is the quickest, most powerful SIXPACK Charger ever – and the most powerful Dodge Super Bee in history.

The vehicle will be on display in the manufacturer's midway at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

Purple Haze: Limited Charger Color Now Available to Order

"Purple Haze" joined the Dodge Charger palette in June as a limited-edition exterior color exclusive to the 2027 Dodge Charger. It's a high-gloss clearcoat finish:

Lighting Condition Appearance
Direct sunlight Brilliant purple
Shade Deep, rich purple

The color carries a U.S. MSRP of $795 and is now available to order on 2027 Dodge Charger models.

Hagan: Aiming to Put Super Bee in the Winner's Circle

Hagan, a four-time NHRA Funny Car world champion and the 2026 regular season champion, has 58 career wins – all in Dodge vehicles. He's chasing his fifth world title and has three wins so far in 2026: Pomona, Bristol, and Brainerd.

"This Purple Haze tone looks fantastic on my Dodge race car," Hagan said. "It's going to look incredible at the NHRA race in Martin, Michigan. Every NHRA win I've ever had has come in a Dodge. I've always loved the unique liveries the Dodge team designs. This weekend, I want to put that Super Bee logo in the winner's circle. I think the fans will love it too."

Pruett: Ready to Add Purple to the Trophy Case

Pruett, a 13-time NHRA Top Fuel national event winner, will race the newly liveried Dodge in Michigan.

"Bringing the Super Bee and the beloved Dodge Charger purple to the inaugural Dodge Great Lakes Nationals is incredibly exciting," Pruett said. "After winning the New England Nationals, I already put Dodge colors on the winner's wall. Now, to add purple to our trophy in Michigan at the first NHRA national event here in 66 years – that would be amazing."

"NHRA Dodge Tour de Michigan" Convoy Event

To celebrate the return to Michigan, Dodge and NHRA will host the "NHRA Dodge Tour de Michigan" on September 17. Open to all Dodge owners and performance enthusiasts, the event departs from Dodge headquarters in Auburn Hills and heads to Martin, Michigan, for the Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals.

Market Significance

This event carries dual significance for the Dodge brand and the parts market:

  1. NHRA returns to Michigan – Dodge's home turf: This is the first NHRA national event in Michigan since 1960. As the hometown brand, Dodge reinforces its performance credibility through race exposure. Technical data and reliability validation from competition continue to feed directly into MOPAR high-performance parts development.

  2. Charger Super Bee and Purple Haze dual exposure: With the 600-hp Charger Super Bee Launch Edition on display and the Purple Haze limited color open for order, Dodge is advancing both its "performance flagship" and "personalization" strategies. For those following Dodge parts and MOPAR performance components, this signals continued growth in Charger platform parts and customization accessories.
